Hotel Review | Next Hotel Brisbane, Queensland Australia

A glimpse into Lennons Restaurant & Bar at Next Hotel Brisbane

NEXT Hotel Brisbane is one of soon-to-be two NEXT Hotels operated by Next Story Group (NEXT Hotel Melbourne will open in 2021). Next Story Group manages a series of hotel brands across Australia and Asia, with each brand catering to various types of travellers and explorers.

Next Hotels focus on the time-conscious traveller; one who appreciates effortless space, functionality and efficiency.

The official address is Queen Street, the 26 level hotel rising above Brisbane’s Queen Street Mall. Its central location makes NEXT Brisbane an ideal spot to stay and to access the city’s attractions, shopping, dining and entertainment precincts.

The CBD is walkable and flat, with Queen Street Mall a designated pedestrian zone only. If you plan on going a little further to South Bank, Howard Smith Wharves or New Farm, you have several options. You can walk, hop on an electric scooter, hire a CityCycle bicycle, catch a Brisbane City Council bus or take a ferry (TransLink CityCat or the free CityHopper) along the Brisbane River.

We stayed in a Deluxe King Room on the 25th floor with distant river views. The room is 31 square metres featuring a DreamWeave Sleep System King bed, espresso coffee machine, free Wi-Fi and a 48″ television. A desk and chair sit in the corner with an armchair and low coffee table situated below the window. Ducted air-conditioning means you can control room temperature to your liking.

MOR Boutique amenities from the Emporium Classics range are provided in the bathroom, enriched with snow gardenia extract and avocado oil. The bathroom can be partitioned from the bedroom with sliding doors. There is no bathtub for you to soak but the shower is luxuriously spacious.

There is sufficient space in the King Room despite the King bed occupying a large portion of the room. Designated space for your luggage is available in the bathroom with the ironing board, iron and hair dryer all tucked away neatly in allocated compartments. The brown partition doors seem a tad dated but this is a minor note given the room is comfortable and more than practical.

An array of dining options is available at NEXT Brisbane to suit visitors’ varying tastes and needs.

Lennons Restaurant and Bar is located on the 2nd floor. Due to COVID-19, Lennons is currently only open for breakfast from 7am – 10am daily. All other food and beverage services including dine-in, takeaway and in-room dining have been suspended for the time being. For $19.50 per person, breakfast included one main meal, juice and tea or coffee. We sampled the Chicken Waffles and the Banana Fritters; safe to say, there were no crumbs left on the plates! Once normal restaurant service resumes, we expect that Lennons will return with its innovative and authentic menu.

The holiday feeling can continue on Level 4 at Pool Terrace & Bar. Centered around a 20 metre infinity pool above Queen Street Mall, the open-air bar is the perfect place to unwind with some bar food and a cocktail in hand. Currently, Pool Terrace & Bar is serving a limited menu with limited hours on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

NEXT Brisbane’s facilities are designed and available for the modern day traveller.

Located on Level 4, the NEXT Lounge is open 24 hours daily to hotel guests. Couches and TVs, a library and a gym can be accessed by the early birds and the night owls. The Pool Terrace & Bar is located adjacent to NEXT Lounge and outside is where you can access the open-air infinity pool. Whilst the Pool Terrace & Bar is operating limited hours due to COVID-19, the infinity pool is open to hotel guests from 7am – 9pm.

NEXT Brisbane also goes the extra mile providing access to its In Transit Zone lounge to guests prior to check-in and/or after check-out. Individual sleep pods mean you can pull the curtain to catch some Zs while the lounge allows you to smash out those email replies and access the free wi-fi which is available throughout the hotel.

And when it’s time to head to Brisbane Airport, turn to the hotel’s dedicated airport transfer service and be whisked away in a Tesla Model S. Now that’s what we call travelling in style.

The reception and lobby is located on the 2nd floor. The check-in process was smooth and seamless with a warm greeting, our car looked after by valet parking and a swift transition up to our room. Upon entering our King Room, we found a beautiful welcome note and a bottle of “Pocketwatch” Pinot Noir by Robert Oatley.

All our interactions with hotel staff were pleasant with care and attention given at all times. From granting us an extra key card when we accidentally locked ourselves out of our room to settling our room account and delivering our luggage to our car, we could not fault the customer service during our experience.

Reception is manned 24/7 so give the front desk a buzz if you need anything at all.
